Substituted Dibenzodiazocines: Rapid Synthesis and Photochemical Properties

11,12-Dihydrodibenzo[c,g]-1,2-diazocines have been established as a viable alternative to azobenzene for photoswitching, in particular, they show an inverted switching behavior: the ground state is Z isomer. In this paper, we present improved method obtain dibenzodiazocine and its derivatives from respective 2-nitrotoluenes two reaction steps, each proceeding minutes. This fast access variety of permitted study substitution effects on synthesis photochemical properties. With biochemical applications mind, methanol was chosen protic solvent system investigations. contrast system, none tested patterns resulted more efficient or significantly prolonged half-lives, showing that dominated by ring strain.
